D&D On Your TV

1983 was a great year for cartoons: He-Man, Alvin and the Chipmunks, even Donkey Kong had a gig on Saturday mornin’. Best of all, though, influencing a whole generation of future gamers, there was the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon. Top-shelf monsters like beholders and nightmares, a creepy little Dungeon Master, a floppy-haired blond boy in tight green leather, even a slighty dumpy version of Tiamat herself! It was totally what D&D’s all about.

Later this year the folks over at BCI are letting you take a jump back to Saturday mornings in your P.J.s with their release of Dungeons & Dragons: The Animated Series. The boxed set is comprised of five disks, twenty-seven episodes, and a ton of special features. Aside from the standard documentary and concept art stuff, there’s a “Choose Your Own Adventure” DVD Game, “Uni’s Fun Facts” (Please tell us who Hank murmers about in his sleep, Uni), a radio show version of the unaired final episode, and (most intriguingly) a hard-cover gaming supplement.

They haven’t said what this last feature is, or if it’s something new, but I’m hoping we finally get some stats for Uni and Venger. Right now it looks like the DVD’s aren’t scheduled to release until December 5th, so there’s still a bit of a wait, but at least you can add them to your Christmas list. Check out the full press release and all the details here.

Oh and—Yes, I’m going to spoil it—Dungeon Master is Venger’s dad.

And girls who like girls who like breastplates!
