Free Character Sheets, Old Skool Style

I can’t say that I’m a huge fan of Goodman Games’ Dungeon Crawl Classics line. While I’ve enjoyed the few I’ve played, I always tell myself that I like a bit more depth and intrigue in my games than the “kill all the monsters and take their treasure”-experiences these modules pride themselves on offering. Call it ego, call it ugly gamer elitism, but there’s always the thought that “These old-school delves can’t hold a candle to MY subtle and nuanced campaign epics.”
All that being said, Goodman Games just put out a free and probably familiar looking PDF of thier Dungeon Crawl Classics character sheet. Riffing of the old basic D&D sheet, this clean and simple one-pager immediately reminded me of DMing my first sessions for my brother and my Dad. It also made me pine for a simpler time without attacks of opportunity, size modifiers, and +2 circumstance this or +4 competence that. The only thing it’s missing is a place for a character sketch.
On the other hand, if nostalgia takes a backseat to hardcore detail and number-crunching in your game, you can check out Wizards of the Coast’s entire page of class and campaign specific character sheets right here.
Sometimes, though, simple is good.
