Hexes Chess: No Straight Moves

While I've never been a big fan of the world's consummate strategy game, I've always been enamored with chess (what can I say, I like the horsies). Mike Layfield over at Hexes: Hexagonal Chess is taking it to the next level, though, having invented a chess variant on a three color hex map. Apparently the game plays just like chess (but, you know, on hexes) with the addition on a third bishop. Aside from just throwing it out to the market, Layfield has also made a pretty cool little website where you watch animations that teach you how to play and try the game out by playing online. Pretty classy! All the strategy of chess with none of the embarrassment when your king gets pawn'd.
