Magic's Own Purple Rain

Anyone who's been playing and buying deep into Magic: The Gathering's Time Spiral expansion is no doubt familiar with the recent appearance of the color purple. Cards with the purple expansion logo are "time-shifted," which are in effect reprints of well-known cards from previous editions (Avatar of Woe, Lord of Atlantis, The Rack, etc). Now, there's always been talk of adding a sixth color to MTG, and the appearance of an unusual color on a new base set's cards already got the rumor mill working, but then this little article, The Color Purple, showed up on the offical Magic website. At the bottom is a poll asking if you want to see a sixth color, purple, added to the game. While the article says pretty clearly that purple cards aren't in the works, iin my experience companies don't ask their customers questions unless they're testing the waters.
Planar Choas just hit the shelves and so far it doesn't look like the world's being turned upside down, but, just in case, be sure to head over and cast your vote. Someday you might be able to say you had a hand in making Magic more fabulous!

Personally, I think adding a color is a bad idea. The 5 colors already presented in M:TG have enough balance on their own.
The thought that with an alternative reality (part of the storyline in this particular block), there might be alternative colors as well. But would it stop at the block, or would it continue in future expansions. How will that affect the balance of the game?
It's a cliche, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
