Dragonlance Departing: More Sad News

Mweis.jpg

Following in the unfortunate footsteps of Dragon and Dungeon magazines, a press release from Margaret Weis Productions yesterday announced the end of the company's connection with Dragonlance, their license with Wizards of the Coast having expired and being left unrenewed. This means the popular Dragonlance campaign setting, co-created by Margaret Weis Productions owner—Margaret Weis (the nice lady to the right)—will revert to Wizards of the Coast. The Hasbro-owned company has of yet made no announcements about employing the 20+ year old license beyond their ongoing series of novels.

While the announcement notes a few new projects with Dragonlance's other co-creator Tracy Hickman and the continuation of MWP's Firefly and Battlestar Galactica lines, this is undoubtedly a sad time for the people who have owned and managed dragonlance.com and supported the wide Dragonlance fan community for years now.

Overall this has been a really sad week in gaming. Whether in sadness or in rage there's been a lot of discussion about all the last week's developments over on ENWorld. I encourage you to let your favorite (and least favorite) companies know what you think and what these changes mean to you!
