Magic the Gathering Culture Gap
Just a neat little dual-cultural look at how last week's Magic: The Gathering Pro Tour in Yokohama Japan went down. The folks hosting the Pro Tour put together these nifty little Tournament Center clips for YouTube, updating fans on the daily events of the competition and the players vying for more than $240,000 in prizes. The interesting part is that these snippets come in two flavors: Japanese and Dumpy American.
While the Japanese commentators seem playful and honestly enthused (not that I can understand a word they're saying) the American announcers remind me of the days when Magic would show up on ESPN2 and the talking heads thought they were on Sports Center. Not that I'm trying to disparage too much, the whole concept is really neat and a cool bonus for MTG fans. Just look up "Pro Tour Yokohama" on YouTube for all of these.
(When is being American going to be sexy again?)

You know I still have five boxes of these damn things to unload. From unlimited up through Mirage I think...
