D&D and Video Games Blamed for Starving Babies

wowaddict.jpg

In a predictably grim piece of reporting on MSN, online video games are blamed for two early twenty-something parents' negelct of their 22 and 11 month year old children. Although the kids are fine now, they were seriously malnourished when they were taken away from their parents-of-the-year last month. So, who's the culprit on this one (aside from Mr. and Mrs. Clever)? Surprisingly, World of Warcraft, City of Heroes, or Lord of the Rings Online don't take the blame, this time it's Dungeons & Dragons (Online presumably).

the Reno couple were too distracted by online video games, mainly the fantasy role-playing “Dungeons & Dragons” series, to give their children proper care.

What. Really? Not feeding your children gets you to a pretty deep level of Hell, but not doing it becuase of D&D Online... Wow. Also, I'm facinated by what other online games comprise the "Dungeons & Dragons series." Personally, this sounds like the classic sensationalist fear-mongering RPGs took in the 80s, ala the D&D Egbert case. On the upside, the surprsingly even-headed spokesman for Nevada Child Abuse Prevention,
Patrick Killen, seems more interested in searching out this event's psychological roots than demonizing a particular game or its players:

“As we become more technologically advanced, there’s more distractions,” Killen said. “It’s easy for someone to get addicted to something and neglect their children. Whether it’s video games or meth, it’s a serious issue, and (we) need to become more aware of it.”

Good luck to those kids and, to everyone out there, treat yourself and those around you well.

This is why God made it so gay people can't have children. We can focus and play our video games without starving the babies.

And girls who like girls who like breastplates!
