Quars! A Miniature Misnomer

Every now and then you see something so out of left field, so hilariously out of line that you have to think, "No, that can't mean what I think that means." Take ZombieSmith for example, a fine little indy minis gaming site with some snazzy little metal figures. In addition to some miniature monsters and some especially great zombies, they've got two lines of house made armies for sci-fi strategy games: the Aphid and the Quar. Yes. You read that right, the Quar.

Reading through the entire Quar site, it's obvious that this is just a quirky, harmless name choice and not a red-neck's mispronunciation. The faction, after all, is a race of camo-wearing, vulture-reptile dough boys—hard to get less offensive than that... I guess. But, after reading links with names like Quar Discussion, Quar Units, and Quar Accessories, I near fell out of my throne of fuzzy purple skulls. There's also a gallery with a full-frontal Quar art. In fact, and I might need to take them up on one of their Quar Package Deals and get a whole squad of Quar. Okay, I'm done.... you get the joke.

I'm giving them a hard time, but the guys over at Zombiesmith have obviously put a lot of time and love into their work, even fleshing out a history and map for their Quar world (*snicker*). After seeing that they have super cute squirrel wranglers (complete with squirrels) I might even have to organize my own Quar army. Isn't it great how games sometimes make more sense than life?.
