Game Of The Week: Once Upon A Time...

I must confess, I tend to play role playing games, so the idea of playing a game you can win isn't always my cup of tea. From Monopoly to Scrabble, I suck at all of them (ok, so I'm good at Magic the Gathering... go figure, I mean I used to be Mr. Suitcase). So having a brother who owns a gaming store can be quite a boon... he helps me find the cool games that I needn't be shy about playing in the company of a cute guy I like.

That brings us to this week's Game of the Week: Once Upon a Time. I always had a thing for fairy tales... but I never saw myself in them. Now I get to create my own and have fun gaming at the same time. Once Upon a Time is a card game where the players create tales of mystery and magic (and fairies!) with the cards in their deck. The current storyteller can be interrupted in her tale through the use of particular cards that let you steal away the story and continue it in an effort to reach your unique happy ending (conveniently provided on its own card).

I have fun playing this game with my brother's kids, but it's always more fascinating to hear the stories adults come up with. You'd be amazed at the different elements a group of half-drunk college students will put into a fairy tale! Atlas Games produced a winner with this one.
