Palladium Releases Its Plans For 2008

41palladium.jpg

In a recent press release, Palladium, at long last, has given us specifics on what we might expect in the new year, representing quite the bounce back from the horrible crisis that befell them just a year and a half ago.

In summary: Palladium has reacquired the Robotech license, and the first book in the RPG series is now in development. They say that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the license, and we can expect much, much more on that front. They also plan to release one new product a month, which means they are planning for at least twelve new books, namely Rifts Dimensional Outbreak, Armageddon Unlimited, Fleets of the Three Galaxies, Rifts Lemuria, Rifts Delta Blues, Rifts Dark Woods, Rifts Voodoo, Rifts Shemarrian Nation, Mysteries of Magic, Monsters & Magic, Atorian Empire, and the Nightbane Survival Guide, along with a Chaos Earth novel. And those are just the finished manuscripts—there's much more in development, rest assured.

Along with plans for "downloadable adventures, source material and G.M. aids, therifter.com, and a second podcast program," this is hopefully going to be quite the year for Palladium.

Oh Palladium, I used to love some of the settings in Rifts (as long as you ignore the ton of crap that goes along with the ton of good). Except the game mechanics themselves make me want to cry, totally not my cup of tea rules wise.

I've spent more money than I should on Rifts, but have only actually attempted to play it a few times. I have to say, I love the content and story of Rifts, but the Palladium system has always been broken, and is in DIRE need of a complete overhaul (or more accurately a replacement), especially when it comes to Rifts.
It's too bad because the Rifts world is so much fun, but the game itself just doesn't work properly without severe changes made via house rules and a very strict GM limiting what people can and can't do.

I have to admit though, that one of the things I've always been very entertained by with regards to Rifts, is that the whole game appears to have been made by a bunch of people sitting around saying "you know what would be cool!" without any regard for balance or game mechanics.

And girls who like girls who like breastplates!
