RPG Superstar: Varied Villianous Vermin

RPGSuperstarLogo_left.jpg

The RPG Superstars at Paizo are at it again. This round the folks at Paizo dreamed up a difficult task... a villian on the strength of a stat block plus 500 words. Sounds easy? Trust me, it's really not.

With many villians to choose from, it's a boon that the folks at Paizo have given us 4 votes for this round. I love villians because, like the topic of the next round (monsters), they are easy to plug into my own games - and thus I'm basically getting free gaming source material to use at my table. Unlike the last round, there are fewer gems in the mix.

For contemporary, there's Hal Maclean's Durgal "the Martyr Eater" - a ghoulish evil who sends his deluded disciples into crowds to blow themselves up for the cause (and provide him with his favorite meal, roast martyr, in the process). For an interesting twist on a classic, try Russell Taylor's Seskadrin, Satrap of the Ahestian Sea, a four-armed sahuagin paladin variant who follows the will of Asmodeus. Then again, for those who like psionics, there is this one: Voeren Van Premie, Herald of Than Aivel, by Joseph Yerger, an elan psion who follows his benevolent aboleth masters (and brilliantly provides for an entry of psionics in a campaign). The superstars aren't pulling punches, but fewer have hit the mark in this round. On the other hand, some whose entries were just weird and rather out there in earlier rounds are now showing their promise.

Voting on this round ends on Christmas, so I'd play it safe and make sure to vote by Christmas eve.

So since villains are always an interesting topic, and there were a more reasonably readable number of entries this time, I actually read them instead of picking the ones with interesting names like last round (hehe...).

I liked a lot of them, it's too bad we can only pick four. In ended up with Arthelia (cause hey, gender issues are always fun in an RPG setting), Abzirael Ul-Shadai (cause over the top is also fun), Voran Van Premie (because I <3 psionics) and Elsie the hand collector (because little old, crazy-sadistic ladies are fun).

And girls who like girls who like breastplates!
