Magic: The Gathering "Morningtide" Previews Begin With A Bit Of Class

Morningtide, as most Magic: the Gathering players will know, is the next set to be released after Lorwyn. This week at the official website, previews begin for real with Mike Rosewater's traditional "Making Magic" article detailing the thought-processes and themes behind the creation of the set.
Lorwyn focused on tribes, all of which were races: Elementals, Elves, Faeries, Giants, Goblins, Kithkin, Merfolk and Treefolk Morningtide adds something else to the mix: class. Not that je-ne-sais-quoi that infuses any good dinner party, but literally D&D-esque classes. These are new tribes not dictated by race but by profession: Rogues, Shaman, Soldiers, Warriors and Wizards. This means that any one creature can be part of two tribes, a race tribe and a class tribe, and as so many Soldier and Druid and Rogue decks have shown in the past, this is a very viable and playable idea. It mixes those kind of decks with the more traditional Merfolk/Goblin/whatever decks in a hybrid that should be pretty cool.
