Way-Out Wednesday: The Committee For The Exploration Of Mysteries

Welcome to another slightly belated edition of Way-Out Wednesday. I've been really into pulp lately, so this week let's check out a game genre I'm very, very good at: boasting.

The game's called The Committee For The Exploration Of Mysteries. In this indie rpg, you play a pulp hero—"you've braved crocodiles, Nazis, necromancy, and devolved ape men to find the mythical city and the secrets it holds. You tested your skills and resolve to their limits, driven by a secret desire that motivates you to greater deeds just as it blinds you to possible pitfalls." But that was in the past—in this game, you don't do those things. You talk about them. Or, more accurately, you talk about talking about them. And, somehow, it's awesome.

It has a heart-poundingly tense free-form narrative system—on the clock. That's right, various portions of the game are timed, making it far more exciting. Can you tell a gut-slappingly powerful recantation of your achievements and win over your peers' respect in the limited time you have? It's fast-paced, glory-seeking, braggadocious, pulpy as all heck, doesn't require any beforehand preparation, can range in tone from Jules Verne to Family Guy in a few minutes, and it's very, very fun.
